What do I do with my children?

There is a nursery available with babysitters during both services.

During the morning service, there is a story hour for children aged 3-5.

Children older than 5 typically sit in church with their parents to participate in the worship service.

What will the service be like?

We have 2 services every Sunday which follow the same pattern. The services include singing, prayer, Bible reading, a sermon based on a Bible passage, and an offertory.
The pattern of a church service is called a liturgy or order of worship. Ours is generally as follows:

-Words of greeting from the minister
-Singing
-Reading the 10 Commandments or Apostles’ Creed
-Singing
-Prayer
-Bible reading
-Singing
-Sermon/Message
-Singing
-Prayer
-Offertory
-Singing
-Closing words from the minister

We sing songs from a book called the ‘Book of Praise’. These are available to borrow in the lobby of the church.

If a baby has been born recently to a family in our congregation we may celebrate baptism. This would be done during a worship service by reading a form, asking the parents questions pertaining to their beliefs, and sprinkling the baby with water.

Every other month, on the second Sunday, we celebrate the Lord’s Supper with our members and any guests previously admitted by the council. The minister reads a form remembering what Jesus has done for us and reminding us of how to live until He returns. A visible sign of this remembrance is that the members of the church eat bread and drink wine as symbols of Christ's body and blood.

If you have attended a service at Ebenezer you may be wondering who those men are sitting at the front of the church during the service.

Our church is lead by a group of men called a ‘council’. The council includes the minister, some elders and some deacons.
Each member of the church is assigned an elder and a deacon.
Elders visit individual church members to comfort, instruct or admonish them as needed. They advise the minister when necessary. They also take care that the church as a whole is running smoothly.
Deacons take care that every member of the congregation is not in need of anything. They may do this by distributing money collected from the rest of the people or in other ways, such as teaching how to properly manage funds.
